Notification of Board actions:
January 28, 2020 – At a meeting of the Board of Trustees January 27, 2020, approval of a resolution directing the Chancellor and University of Maine System University Presidents to prepare and submit an appropriate substantive change application to the New England Commission of Higher Education (NECHE) to transition the current separate University of Maine System university institutional accreditations to a unified institutional accreditation for the University of Maine System, covering all of its universities, in such time as to permit NECHE’s initial consideration by June 30, 2020
NECHE notification of Board action:
January 31, 2020 – At its meeting on Monday, January 27, 2020, the University of Maine System Board of Trustees directed all University of Maine System universities to work with the Chancellor to prepare a substantive change application to transition their separate NECHE institutional accreditations into a unified accreditation for the University of Maine System
NECHE March update report:
March 18, 2020 – In its May 10, 2019 letter to former University of Maine System Chancellor James H. Page, the Commission requested a Spring 2020 report regarding the University of Maine System progress on offering multi-institutional academic degree and certificate programs, as well as institutional academic collaboration more generally in a manner consistent with the Commission’s Standards for Accreditation
NECHE votes to accept University of Maine System report:
May 13, 2020 – The New England Commission of Higher Education informed the University of Maine System of its vote to accept its report on the substantive change request

June 10, 2020 – This document serves as the formal request that the Commission unify their separate institutional accreditations and accredit them together as the University of Maine System

NECHE votes to accredit the University of Maine System:
June 26, 2020 – In a joint press release prepared by the University of Maine System and the New England Commission of Higher Education, approval of accreditation for the University of Maine System was announced

As pledged in the Guiding Principles: We have made available for public review the primary records referenced in Chancellor Malloy’s Unified Accreditation Recommendation, including formal written correspondence between the University of Maine System, NECHE and the United States Department of Education regarding the University of Maine System’s consideration of a single or unified accreditation.
