UMS News

Update — Safe Departure Testing Detects 40 Asymptomatic Cases of COVID-19:  Community transmission is occurring throughout Maine.  The University of Maine System is conducting safe departure testing to identify and isolate asymptomatic cases of COVID-19 that otherwise may have traveled home with students to their families and communities.

UMS has conducted 6,293 safe departure tests and has 6,265 results in hand.  That testing has identified 40 positive cases among the student population.  The University of Maine System will be supporting students who are unable to travel home for Thanksgiving due to an isolation order in the space set aside on the campuses.  Meals and a great deal of care and comfort will be provided until it is safe for students to return to their families.
