Statement of Chancellor Malloy on Safe Departure Testing and Support for Isolating Students
“The University of Maine System’s safe departure testing is keeping asymptomatic cases of infection from traveling home with students to their communities and families. Community transmission is occurring throughout Maine. With 5,000 test results in hand, we have identified and are helping to isolate thirty-one cases of COVID-19 that otherwise would have gone undetected.”
“Our arrival screening, monitoring, and departure testing were part of a strategy this semester that kept our students, campuses, and communities as safe as possible. We want all of our students home with their families as soon as they are cleared to travel, but we have made plans to support isolating students with extra care and comfort through the Thanksgiving holiday.”
— University of Maine System Chancellor Dannel Malloy
