University of Maine System COVID Data by Campus
4 — Known Case of UMS students or employees in public health agency Isolation
- 3 UMA: One new case confirmed, see UMA news below
- 1 UMaine:
- 0 UMF: An individual released from isolation
There are no known cases at the other University of Maine System universities.
The above Data reflects ACTIVE known cases identified through the UMS asymptomatic screening and other testing venues. When an individual is released from an isolation order by a public health agency the active case number shared in the Together for Maine daily update is reduced to reflect that change. UMS is reporting four known cases today, the same number of cases reported in the 10/15/20 update.
Asymptomatic Screening Update for Fall Safe Return
- 20,455 Tests Results to Date
- 18 positives results representing new diagnoses of COVID-19
The Asymptomatic Screening Dashboard at Together.Maine.edu represents known results on all asymptomatic tests going back to July 22, 2020. About 48 hours passes from the time a test sample is collected and when the results are known.

UMS Scientific Advisory Board Completes Analysis of Round 3 Sampling: The University of Maine System Scientific Advisory Board Chaired by President Joan Ferrini-Mundy has reviewed the results of more than 1,800 test results for COVID-19 from the latest round of sampling. The randomly selected participants in this third round included 1,055 asymptomatic members of the university community. Key findings and analysis from Round 3 include:
- 1 positive case from more than 1,800 tests in Round 3;
- Round 3 Random Sampling Participation Exceeds Target: With 1,055 random tests conducted students, staff, and faculty participated at a number that exceeded University of Maine System’s target of 1,000 random results per round;
- 0.17% Estimated Prevalence Rate: With zero positive cases among more than 1,000 random results the testing of randomly selected individuals supports an inference with 95% confidence that the University System’s in-person population has an estimated prevalence rate of no more than 0.17%; and,
- 0.06% Positivity Rate in Round 3 Testing: The Advisory Board and the University System also monitor the positivity rate of the University System’s own testing overall. The fall 2020 entry screening positivity rate across more than 14,800 tests conducted by the University of Maine System from the arrival of students through mid-September was approximately 0.09%. Since that time until now, the positivity rate across all Phase 3 fall testing to date is approximately 0.11% or 6 positive tests of more than 5,600 results. The positivity rate of only the just-completed round 3 of Phase 3 testing was 0.06% (1 positive test of more than 1,800 results). The positivity rate of the randomly selected portion of that testing was 0% as there were no positive results in the random sample.

UMA: A member of the university community affiliated with UMA tested positive as part of the University of Maine System’s asymptomatic screening this week. The individual does not have symptoms and is isolating at a private residence.
In connection with this situation, the university will not have public access or services at its dental clinic for several days. The UMA dental clinic has been and will continue to operate according to all recommended safety precautions. A deep cleaning will occur before the clinic resumes public access and services, which is expected to occur next week. The university and UMS are coordinating with the Maine CDC on contact tracing that will include outreach to university employees, students, and visitors to the clinic.
