Students who participated in our latest Vacationland course at the University of Maine at Machias had the opportunity to immerse themselves in their surroundings like never before with sea kayaking excursions and more (including an overnight camping trip)!
As you can see, students in REM 210: Nature-Based Tourism & Sustainable Development, Maine Coastal Kayaking & Conservation had a blast during their time Down East. Students navigated these adventures while learning about conservation strategies, initiatives, and projects along coastal areas and islands. Students also had a chance to visit conserved lands and learn from local land trusts that preserve and steward these lands and waters.
Students came together from across the University of Maine system to connect with each other and with the lands and waters of the Down East coast with immersive place-based experiences and engaging conversations about sustainable practices. These experiences and insights will inform their future work in the field as leaders of the next generation.
Stay tuned for more information about upcoming Vacationland courses in the coming months!
