What You Can Expect with Transfer ME:

Let us do the work.

Students in an eligible MCCS degree program will be automatically alerted while they are still enrolled in a Maine community college about their opportunities to continue their postsecondary education at UMS. If they agree to opt-in, MCCS students will be directly admitted to UMS universities that offer a relevant program. After completing their associate degree, they can seamlessly transfer to the public university they choose as in good standing.

  1. When they have earned 30 credits, eligible students will receive an invitation to participate in Transfer ME. Eligibility notification means they have successfully met the qualifying markers for seamless admission into a UMS university.
  2. Eligible students’ community college advisors will reach out to those who have accepted the invitation (opted in) with information about their transfer options. Opting in is not a commitment to attend – it simply expresses their interest in learning more. It also authorizes MCCS to share otherwise protected basic information about the student with UMS, like the student’s transcript.
  3. The community college will provide the university system with the information necessary to connect the students who have opted into their desired transfer institution(s). In most cases, the student will not need to submit any additional documents.
  4. University admissions counselors will begin the transfer review process. Soon after opting in, students will receive university information, including invitations to open houses, welcome weekends, student events, and scholarship and financial aid information, to help them determine which UMS university best fits their college and career goals.
  5. At any point between receiving an admission letter and completing the associate degree, the student can confirm their attendance at one of Maine’s public universities. At that point, the student’s existing community college academic advisor and their new advisor at the university will work together on joint advising to complete the associate degree program and onward into the bachelor’s degree!

*All admission offers are conditional, pending the successful completion of the MCCS associate degree. Some selective academic programs (e.g., Nursing and Engineering) may require additional information.
