There is increasing attention to 90-credit degree programs in higher education. In January 2025, the University of Maine System (UMS) Board of Trustees authorized the development of up to five 90-credit applied bachelor’s programs (total) as a pilot cohort focused exclusively on adult degree completers. These program proposals will follow the established UMS curriculum development process for new degree programs, as well as review/approval by the Vice Chancellor for Academic and Student Affairs, the University of Maine System Board of Trustees, and the New England Commission of Higher Education (NECHE).

As universities prepare proposals for this pilot, the resources below will provide guidance and up-to-date information on developments in this innovative area.
