High School Seniors recently participating in Maine 4-H programs are automatically considered for admission to all seven of Maine’s Public Universities.

What is Direct Admission?

Direct Admission is a pathway for students to bypass the traditional college admissions process. Instead, you can opt-in to be automatically considered for admission to all seven of Maine’s Public Universities based on information supplied directly from your high school and 4-H program staff. Maine 4-H members who participate in Direct Admission are not required to complete the Common Application, send SAT or ACT scores, submit recommendations or essays, or pay application fees!

Who is Eligible for 4-H Direct Admissions?

Youth participating in 4-H programs anywhere in Maine are eligible to participate:

What to Expect

  1. Maine 4-H staff, club leaders, and volunteers will let youth who are juniors and seniors in high school know about 4-H direct admissions. Homeschooled youth are also eligible.
  2. You will be given a link where you and your family can sign up to participate. The link takes you to a very short form to collect information like what majors you might be interested in. By filling out this form, you opt in to the 4-H direct admissions process.
  3. Fill out the information on the link and ask your high school counselor or equivalent to send a current transcript. That’s it – nothing else is needed at this point.
  4. As soon as you fill out the short form, admissions counselors at all seven campuses will receive your information.
  5. Within a few days, you will receive your first admission letters, potentially gaining admission to all seven UMS universities!
  6. Follow the link in your admission letter to confirm admission.
  7. After you confirm, you will receive more information, such as invitations to open houses and other events, as well as information about scholarships and financial aid.

*All admission offers are conditional, pending the successful completion of your senior year or equivalent.
