Monday, November 29th
Description: In this session, you will be introduced to the work being done across the nation to aid learners in showcasing their skills through the development of micro-credentials. You will learn about the relationships between competency frameworks, digital credentials, and comprehensive learner records. The session is led by Naomi Boyer, Ph.D., Director of Micro-credentialing Products at the Education Design Lab (EDL), a non-profit agency based in Washington D.C. dedicated to building equity within the future of work. Description: In this session, you will be introduced to the UMS Micro-Credential Initiative and the statewide ecosystem. You will learn about the framework and benefits of micro-credentials for learners and employers. We will also let you know how you can get involved in developing a UMS micro-credential.

Description: In this session, you will learn from UMS Micro-Credential developers. This group of panelists created micro-credentials for UMS students and youth. These micro-credentials verify learner competencies, aiding them in their career development. Youth micro-credentials strengthen the pipeline to UMS programs. These micro-credentials include Career Prepared, Innovation, and 4-H STEM Ambassadors, and 4-H Outdoor Leadership. The panelists will discuss the process of development, benefits for the learners, and share their thoughts on best practices and lessons learned.

Description: In this session, you will learn about the Education Design Lab’s work and how the Lab’s eight 21st Century Skills badges benefit learners, employers, and universities. This session is led by Don Fraser, Chief Program Officer at Education Design Lab (EDL), a non-profit agency based in Washington D.C. dedicated to building equity within the future of work. To earn a 21st Century skills badge, learners must demonstrate that they met the four sub-competency standards. Each learner is assessed, using the Lab’s rubric. The University of Maine System is part of the Lab’s 21st Century Skills, Badged to Hire (External Site) initiative. This is the second session presented by the Lab. Thursday, December 2nd
Description: In this session, you will learn ways to offer Education Design Lab (EDL) Badges to your students. You will be introduced to the Education Design Lab’s online modules and mapping process. We have developed a streamlined process for mapping academic courses, co-curricular programs, and employer training/internship programs to the EDL sub-competencies. The EDL rubrics and process for issuing these badges will also be discussed. It is recommended that you also attend Education Design Lab’s 21st Century Skills Badges: Highlighting Skills Can Benefit Students and Employers to obtain a more in-depth understanding of the benefits of 21st Century skills on various stakeholders. You may also complete the micro-badges yourself.

Description: In this session, you will be introduced to the process of developing a UMS micro-credential. You will learn about the development course in Brightspace and learn how to earn your own digital badges and micro-credential. The Brightspace course uses the same UMS Micro-Credential Framework, three levels, and a macro-badge. Information on how to register for the course will be provided.
