Major: Business Administration – Management
Occupation: Administrative Specialist – The University of Maine Advanced Structures and Composites Center
Originally from Milbridge, Maine, Seana Annable is pursuing an undergraduate degree in Business Management online. She also works as an Administrative Specialist at the Advanced Structures and Composites Center at the University of Maine. Being a non-traditional adult learner and an employee, can present multiple challenges, yet Seana is finding the time to develop a variety of skills through her participation in the UMS Micro-Credential Initiative.
She completed the Education Design Lab’s Resilience Badge and attributes that accomplishment to her motivation to become a full-time undergraduate student.
“Personally, this was quite an accomplishment. I’m not a traditional student. I just turned 40. So, this was one of my first steps into a college classroom – via an online classroom – so, it gave me that jump-start… to get my degree. So, I went from being a part-time degree student to a full-time degree student this coming fall because of it.” – Seana Annable
Seana understands the benefits digital badges and micro-credentials can do for her to meet her career goals.
When the micro-credentials came up, it seemed like it would fit in perfectly with my career path, which right now is [human resources], but hopefully [it will] move more towards project management… – Seana Annable
Adding her badge to her LinkedIn Profile allows potential employers to easily see what she knows and can do.
[It’s] not just something that you can put on a resume, but… a great resource, especially for college graduates that are looking to be hired into the workforce for the first time… – Seana Annable
Seana is working on completing the Financial Literacy micro-credential to add to her skill set. She recently completed Level 1. She also plans to earn the Leadership micro-credential in addition to the seven other 21st Century Skills Badges. We are excited to see Seanna’s growth and her continued participation in the micro-credential initiative!
