Discover More UMS Micro-Credentials with Course Merchant
The University of Maine System (UMS) is piloting an e-commerce solution. The pilot team includes faculty, administrators, and staff from the UMS Micro-Credential Initiative/Office of the Vice Chancellor Academic Affairs, University of Maine Cooperative Extension, the Maine Business School, University of Maine School of Law, and UMS Information Technology.
Together they built Discover.Maine, an e-commerce storefront (External Link) offering non-credit certificates, micro-credentials, and digital badges to UMS students, employees, and other learners.
These learning opportunities allow learners to enhance their employability by developing in-demand skills.
Once registered, learners can quickly access course content through seamless integration with D2L/Brightspace. Learners can register and pay without an @maine.edu email address! Some courses and micro-credentials come at no cost to the learner! Please check eligibility requirements and costs for each offering.
Current categories include 21st Century Skills and Training, Growing Maine, and Business and Law.
Check out the featured micro-badge in Course Merchant – Dawnland: Maine Indian History (External Link) and read more about it in this newsletter.
We will also be offering eight 21st Century Skill badges designed by the Education Design Lab. UMS students, faculty, and staff can take these online modules and earn digital badges at no cost to them!
The University of Maine’s Advanced Structures and Composites Center recently joined the pilot. Their faculty and staff, led by Dr. Rebecca Fisher, developed a series of micro-credentials and badges for UMaine students working in the ASCC labs. Dr. Fisher, Program Manager – Student Research Learning Experience, is one of the first staff members to have the development of micro-credentials built into her job description!
