Preventative dental care is critical for maintaining a healthy lifestyle for both adults and children of all ages. Developed by the Children’s Oral Health Network of Maine’s Oral Health Industry Partnership (OHIP), this micro-credential equips learners with the knowledge and skills to help underserved populations navigate the complex dental system and promotes the enhancement of oral health education.
Micro-credential earners can leverage their skills across a variety of professional and educational pathways. Some may use this training to expand the functions of their existing roles in serving their communities (e.g., EMS, RNs, CNAs, CHWs, MAs, etc.). Others may use what they learn in this training to seek new employment opportunities within the dental career path (external link).
Learners build foundational knowledge of oral health equity, care coordination for underserved populations, develop and/or strengthen their patient interaction skills, learn about identification of dental decay, and gain an understanding of HIPAA compliance. To ensure quality and rigor, learners’ knowledge and skills are assessed and verified by qualified staff from MCD Global Health (lead OHIP training partner), as well as the learner’s on-site supervisor at Level 3.
