The University of Maine System is a Grow with Google Partner

As a Grow with Google (External Link) partner, the University of Maine System (UMS) now offers no-cost Google Career Certificates to help learners develop skills to start or advance their careers in high-growth fields. The certificates can complement degree programs and help to increase learners’ earning potential.


What is the Google Career Certificate program?

The Google Career Certificate program is a completely online training program that offers professional certificates (External Link) in high-demand fields. The program is designed by Google employees with input from employers and taught by experts. The program combines skills training with hands-on practice and is hosted on Coursera, a global online learning platform.

Recipients of a Google Career Certificate scholarship must reside in Maine, or if outside of Maine must register using a maine.edu, maine.gov, Maine school district, or similar email address. Once enrolled, you have up to six months to complete the certificate. Participation is limited to 500 concurent users, and the program ends in December 2025. Once you complete one of the certificates, you can ask to be enrolled in another.

How long will it take me to complete a certificate?

  • Learn at your own pace and time.
  • You will have up to six months to complete a certificate with fewer than 10 hours of flexible study per week.

Based on U.S. earners survey responses in 2021, 75% of certificate earners report an improvement in their career trajectory within six months of certificate completion.
