Description:
The Adult Learning & Teaching Micro-Credential recognizes excellence in teaching adults among faculty within the University of Maine System (UMS). Learners complete rigorous faculty development training in adult learning and apply practical, hands-on strategies to improve teaching of adult learners. They participate in UMS’ Summer Academy for Adult Learning & Teaching (SAALT), a four-day, immersive training. At Level 3, learners:
- identify a barrier and incorporate an adult learning teaching practice or resource to address that barrier,
- revise their course design and teaching to apply their knowledge,
- receive positive feedback, and
- reflect on their demonstrated competencies and knowledge gained in adult learning applications and lessons learned about adult learning.
Selected participants represent a balanced mix of full- and part-time instructors from each UMS campus who are at various stages of their careers and belong to a variety of disciplines.
