Description:
This micro-credential recognizes and validates the learner’s successful completion of the University of Maine System (UMS) 4-H Outdoor Leadership pathway (Levels 1, 2 and 3). Learners completed training in outdoor leadership and applied their learning in a real-world outdoor leadership setting. They have also developed an understanding of and connection to college/careers related to outdoor leadership. Recipients of this micro-credential are able to safely lead personal trips with friends and family in backcountry settings. Recipients developed Core Competencies in: two or more disciplines of outdoor activities (canoeing, backpacking, x-country skiing); group management including leadership, group dynamics, safety and risk assessment; “hard” skills in outdoor leadership such as map and compass, and first aid. Evidence was verified and assessed by authorized UMS faculty or staff to ensure UMS micro-credential quality standards were met.
