With the reorganization and transition to a University of Maine System (UMS)-wide safety department, the UMS Safety web pages will be located on the UMS MyCampus portal and can be readily accessed by all university employees system wide. We’ve streamlined the pages to match the existing UMS MyCampus layout and provided a better search function to locate forms, policies, and programs by topic/keyword. We’ve also added pages dedicated to frequently asked questions (FAQs) and campus Safety Management (SM) contacts. We hope that you’ll stop by and have a look around our UMS Safety Management (External Site) web pages.
UMS Safety Management partners and consults with University communities to provide tools, techniques, and services to support compliance and safely perform our collective mission.

Safety Management: University of Maine System FEMA Hazard Mitigation Plan
The University of Maine System has developed a Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Hazard Mitigation Plan to address natural disasters that could impact our campuses such as severe storms, wildfires, and flooding. The plan addresses risk mitigation strategies to prevent losses while increasing our resiliency in response to these risks. Having a FEMA-approved plan demonstrates the commitment of UMS and its universities to reducing our vulnerability to natural disasters and promoting a culture of safety.

FEMA Hazard Mitigation Grant Program
FEMA’s Hazard Mitigation Grant Program provides funding to state, local, tribal and territorial governments so they can develop hazard mitigation plans and rebuild in a way that reduces, or mitigates, future disaster losses in their communities.
