Equity and Inclusion Initiatives

Select a section below to expand it and learn more about UMS equity and inclusion efforts.

The University of Maine System (UMS) is committed to fostering diversity and inclusion by recognizing and respecting the gender identities and pronouns of our community members. UMS students and employees may select their gender identity and pronouns in MaineStreet’s Student Information and HR Systems.

For more information, see the following Knowledge Base Articles:

Members of the UMS community are invited to propose revisions to the current list of gender and pronoun options using the Proposed Revision to Gender/Pronoun Options at University of Maine System form (External Site). This information is submitted to the Office of Equal Opportunity in confidence, and any further dissemination will be anonymous. A UMS committee meets annually to review available options and update them as needed.

The Office of Equal Opportunity works with hiring units to ensure that the university is in compliance with its nondiscrimination and affirmative action obligations.
