Excess Course Applications

Our campuses have noticed students applying for multiple sections of the same course or multiple courses in general within or across campuses. All applications are reviewed and processed manually by campus-based Early College staff. When this happens our staff who review student applications cannot determine which course(s) are a priority. This causes a delay in their application processing. These applications will be marked as “Application Not Processed- See Notes” and a note will be sent through ExplorEC to the student. Students are then referred to Christy Alley, Early College Advising & Success Coordinator, for assistance identifying an application plan for the upcoming semester.

What you can do to help:

  • Encourage your students to apply early! Applications are processed in the order they are received and complete, once our campuses enter the open registration period.
    • The ExplorEC Portal opens to accept applications on the following dates:
      • Summer Semester- Second Friday in February
      • Fall Semester- First Friday in April
      • Spring Semester- First Friday in November
  • Please do not approve excess course applications.
  • Direct students to contact an early college advisor for assistance, email ecadvising@maine.edu, or call Christy Alley at (207) 255-1268.

Duplicate ExplorEC Accounts

ExplorEC accounts are used to create official MaineStreet accounts for each student. If a student thinks they have created an account in the past, DO NOT advise them to create a new account. There are 2 things students can do:

  1. If they have forgotten their password, but know what email they used to create their ExplorEC/OnCourse account, then they can use the forgot password option on the student login page to receive a password reset link by email.
  2. If they are unsure of their username/email they used to sign up, then they must email ExplorECaccounts@maine.edu for assistance. They provide their full (legal) name, date of birth, and current or former high school in their email request so that we can help them regain access as quickly as possible.
  3. Students requiring urgent assistance should contact Jamie Whitemore by phone at (207) 572-6592

Applications submitted from duplicate accounts WILL NOT be processed.

School Contact Updates in ExplorEC

If you have recently changed professional roles and/or school districts, please email ExplorECaccounts@maine.edu to let us know. You may need to submit an access request form if your position change has taken you to a new school district.

If your school has new staff who require access to ExplorEC for student approval and/or grade posting purposes, they will need to submit an access request form.

Early College Course and High School Graduation Requirements

Please do not rely on early college courses to meet high school graduation requirements. This is particularly important for online or on-campus courses. We review every application and cannot guarantee university course approval or course availability. The primary goal of the early college program is to provide additional opportunities to your students, but not to replace the high school curriculum.

Summer 2024 Grade Spreadsheets Available in ExplorEC

Summer 2024 grade spreadsheets have been uploaded to ExplorEC. If you have questions, or do not see your grade spreadsheet, please email jamie.whittemore@maine.edu.

Remember the following:

  • If a student earns an I (Incomplete) or an NP (Not-Proficient) grade, they must complete the work in that course before taking additional courses.
  • If a student earns an F or an L grade, they must retake the course before taking additional online/on-campus courses.
  • If a student earns an D+, D, D-, or a W grade, the student may retake the course if they choose to and the DOE will pay for the retake.

You can read more about our Course Retake Policy on our website.
