Application Deadline for Full Semester Fall Courses

Completed applications are due by 11:59 pm on August 27th for full semester online and on-campus courses.

Reminder:

  • We cannot make exceptions for incomplete or late applications. Applications that are not completed by the deadline will be marked “Late Application” in the ExplorEC Portal and will NOT be processed for enrollment.
  • Learn more about deadlines and application requirements on our ExplorEC Application Portal webpage.

Late Start Fall Semester Courses

Our campuses are offering a limited number of courses that start later in the fall semester. You can view late start course options on the Course Information page on our website under the heading “Late Start Courses- Fall 2024”.

Reminders:

  • Due to the extensive workload required we only allow students to take 1 condensed session course at a time. One course during this time frame would require ~20 hours of school work per week.
  • The deadline for completed applications is 1 week before the course start date regardless of whether there are spots available.

AP4ME

We are offering two new AP4ME classes in the upcoming academic year: AP Precalculus and AP French Language & Culture. AP4ME courses begin on Monday, September 9 and are full-year, asynchronous-online options for students. Please visit the Course Descriptions webpage for more information on all AP4ME classes.

If you have additional questions, please email AP4ME@maine.edu, or call Jamie Whittemore at (207) 572-6592.

Utilize and Share our Early College Website

We have worked very hard over the last year to create a comprehensive website for you to use and to share with your students and parents. Please bookmark our Early College Website home page as well as our Step-By-Step Guide for Students. Our step-by-step guide walks students through the early college process from start to finish with sections on how to get started, how to prepare for their course, how to navigate their course, dropping/withdrawing from their course, and getting their grades/transcripts.

Course Retake Policy & Impact on Fall Registrations

Over the summer our offices dropped any students registered for fall classes who had not completed their spring course (grades of I-Incomplete or NP- Not Proficient) or had failed a course (grades of F or L) in the past and had not retaken the course. Our EC Student Success & Advising Coordinator, Christy Alley, emailed all impacted students (cc’ing school counselors and parents, if a FERPA release has been signed) explaining the reasoning for the course retake requirement and offering support via phone, email, or Zoom. You can read more about this policy on our Grades & Course Retake Policy webpage.

If you have questions, please email ecadvising@maine.edu or call Christy at (207) 255-1268.

Excess Course Applications

Our campuses have noticed many students applying for multiple sections of the same course or multiple courses in general within or across campuses. When we receive excess applications and they are all approved by the school, our staff cannot determine which course(s) are a priority. This causes a delay in their application processing. These applications will be marked as “Application Not Processed- See Notes” and a note will be sent through ExplorEC to the student and the school counselor. Students are then referred to the Christy Alley, Early College Advising & Success Coordinator for targeted outreach.

What you can do to help:

  • Encourage your students to apply early which will increase their chances of getting the course(s) they want. The ExplorEC Portal opens to accept applications on the following dates:
    • Summer Semester- Second Friday in February
    • Fall Semester- First Friday in April
    • Spring Semester- First Friday in November
  • Do not approve excess course applications.
  • Direct students to contact an early college advisor for assistance, email ecadvising@maine.edu, or call Christy Alley at (207)-255-1268.

Combined Catalog for UM and UMM

While the University of Maine (UM) and the University of Maine at Machias (UMM) have been operating as one campus for a couple of years, their undergraduate course catalogs were officially combined for the first time beginning with the 2024-2025 academic year. If you are looking for a class previously offered by UMM you will find it by searching under UM. If you are specifically looking for a course offered on the Machias campus then you would search under UM and select Machias campus as the location.
