University of Maine System (UMS)-wide diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) work, by design, is a collaborative and coordinated effort among groups that have both aligned objectives and unique roles in the collective work. For instance, the UMS DEI Steering Committee focuses on data collection, analysis and DEI goals that are relevant across all of our universities. Similarly, it seeks to create synergies and opportunities among campuses to accelerate their unique work per sharing resources, recommending common needs, etc. The Campus DEI Councils are the active, campus-based teams most able to directly understand and influence campus operations for greater inclusion. At least one or two Campus DEI Council Members from each campus serve on the UMS DEI Steering Committee, by design. That’s not all…

Steering Committee

The Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) initiative is being lead by a collaborative team supporting each University of Maine System campus in leading meaningful, impactful DEI-related work. Learn more about the University of Maine System DEI Steering Committee Membership.

University Diversity Councils

The Presidents of each UMS University and the Dean of The Maine Law School have appointed a Campus DEI Council specific to their institution. Familiar with the unique diversity strengths and challenges their community faces, these Councils are crucial to influencing the day-to-day operations at a campus. These Councils help support their campus’ people experiencing and leading inclusion and also take action that influences a campus’ places, processes and products to be inclusive.

Campus DEI Councils:

University of Maine and University of Maine at Machias

University of Maine at Augusta

University of Maine at Farmington

University of Maine at Fort Kent

University of Maine at Presque Isle

University of Southern Maine
