Tidbits

Suzanne Vega Information

Are you aware that Soul Coughing's Ruby Vroom is named after the daughter (Ruby Maria Froom - b. July 8, 1994) of Suzanne Vega and Mitchell Froom? I wasn't until I browsed through some of Suzanne's comments/postings on the Suzanne Vega Website . The site contains a discography, scanned photographs, audio clips, and plenty of information. The inclusion of less-formal e-mail and postings/comments from Suzanne gives the site an informal, conversational feel. It's almost like having Suzanne over for a cup of tea and an afternoon chat. If you want to know about Suzanne Vega's projects, past, present and future, this is the place to look first.

Plump Records Announces Web Site

Plump Records is a new label begun by industry veterans Ron Fierstein (attorney/manager) and Steve Addabbo (producer). They are "a new, independent record company committed to compelling music, regardless of genre." While a first glance at the roster might give one the impression that Plump is folk-oriented (Shawn Colvin, David Massengill, Eric Andersen), the alterna-rock/punk leanings of Vitapup and the uncategorizable Harvey Fierstein support the latter part of the previous statement. Bios, sound clips, tour dates, album art and other tidbits are available.

Bottlecap Records Announces Compilation

Wally Pleasant appears on a compilation of previously unissued tracks put out by Bottlecap Records called Green Light Go! . The compilation also features Nothing Painted Blue, Bunnygrunt, The Mommyheads, Diskothi-Q, Cub, Furry Things and Franklin Bruno.

In The Studio - Recording News

Trey Many, drummer/songwriter for His Name Is Alive and drummer for Liquorice (both on 4AD), and singer Damon Krist make up Velour. They've been signed by Tooth & Nail Records and were scheduled to record their debut album in early November for a late January 1996 release.

Soul Coughing, Grant Lee Buffalo and L7 will all be entering the studio soon for possible spring/summer of 1996.

Lisa Cerbone will head into the studio in December with her band to begin work on her second CD. Her first CD was self-issued under the title Lisa Cerbone and then was issued by Ichiban International under the title Close Your Eyes with new artwork and a different song order.

Keanu Reaves' band, Dogstar, has signed with Zoo. They'll enter the studio sometime in November to record an album slated for release early in 1996.
