This ranking uses games played by NCAA Division I teams eligible for consideration to the NCAA Division I Men's Ice Hockey Championships. Specifically excluded this season is Findlay, marked as an "emerging D-I" school by the NCAA this season.
P.I. stands for Preliminary Index. P.I. is calculated for each team by giving a team 40 points for each win and 20 points for each tie, and then dividing by the number of scheduled games. Minimum P.I. is 1.00.
T.I. stands for Tournament Index and is used to rank the teams. T.I. is calculated for each team by summing the P.I. of the opponents for each win, one half the P.I. for each tie, then dividing by the number of games scheduled and then multiplying by 10.
Note: This Division I college hockey Heal Point System ranking uses the number of games played instead of the number of games scheduled. Since all games in Division I college hockey are normally played, there is no difference between this and the traditional Heal Point System at end of season and this method produces better preliminary results.
Game scores for this ranking have been provided by US College Hockey Online, sometimes supplemented by other sources. USCHO's composite of all Division I men's ice hockey games is available at
in the section marked Men's Division I schedules.
